Hashtags and Ichis My Choice Put on a Show In Cali!

The 2017 El Rancho Futurity and Foothill Fiesta is underway and the first two finals are in the books! This show is one we all look forward to each year as Carol Ward always plans such a great show with so many fun events along with the cutting. She tries to keep our stressful sport fun by planning parties, casual get togethers, pancake breakfasts, and just providing an overall laid back atmosphere for us all to enjoy! The finals of each class are also a big deal with draw parties preceding them and large crowds there to cheer on all of the competitors.

OPEN DERBY FINALS:

In the Derby Open it was Tatum Rice and Hashtags (Metallic Cat x Dual Rey Tag) that continued their stellar year marking a 228 to claim the Championship! “Tag” is owned by Hashtag Ventures LLC, of which several shareholders made the trip to California to cheer on this exceptional young stallion. They figured it was worth the risk flying out to watch because Tag’s strength and consistency seem to be growing show by show. This duo is truly something to watch and we love every second! This win added another $9,000 to Tag’s ever-growing lifetime earnings.

Reserve Champion was Beau Galyean riding Bet Yer Metallic (Metallic Cat x Bet Yer Boons) marking a 221! “Rabbit” is owned by Jeff Neidhart and collected $7,700 for her efforts.

Third Place was Russ Westfall riding Reyning Cats (Dual Rey x XY Zee), owned by Bobbie Kay Davis marked a 218 taking home a $6,400 check!

See all the highlights from the Open Derby Finals below:

Gelding Champion: Crafty With Cows ridden by Darren Simpkins owned by Carol Ward - $661.50

Novice champion: SVR Caught Ya Lookin ridden by Grant Setnicka owned by Carmel Cutting Horses - $653.55

OPEN CLASSIC FINALS:

In the Classic Open another dynamic duo finished on top, Grant Setnicka and Ichis My Choice (Cat Ichi x My Little Abra). Grant and “Abba” also marked a 228, which seemed to be the score of the evening! It was a tough run but Abba made it look easy, as she seems to do pretty often. Her first show for 2017 was the NCHA Summer Spectacular that was held in July and they have been in the spotlight ever since! They added another $9,000 to their earnings for owner J5 Horse Ranch Management.

Reserve Champion was Dylan Meyer riding Shesa Puddy Rey (Athena Puddy Cat x Shesa Desi Rey) owned by Laurel Daniel Marais marking a 225 first out in this stacked finals! He went for it laying it all on the line allowing him to collect the $7,500 check!

Third Place was none other than Beau Galyean and Magistic Moon (Metallic Cat x Sweet Abra) marking a 222 and taking home a $5,649.62 check for owner Jimmie Miller Smith.

Beau was also fourth on Metallic Rebel (Metallic Cat x Sweet Abra) owned by Thomas Guinn adding not only an additional $4,000 to their lifetime earnings but also a valuable 12 points to their NCHA Open Horse Of The Year tally which now climbs to 623 total points. Tatum & "Tag" collected 20 points for their win in the four year old division and are just 29 points behind Beau & Cecil according to CHC's "Unofficial" NCHA Horse Of The Year Standings.
