Clean Sweep for Shepard at The Ike

Cade Shepard stole the show at the Ike in the Non-Pro classes! He rode Christy Hughes (Thomas E Hughes x MH San Tules Dually) to win the Classic Non-Pro and Bama Dawg (High Brow Cat x MH San Tules Dually) to win the Derby Non-Pro. Both of these special horses are out of MH San Tules Dually a mare that the Shepard’s had so much success aboard during her show career. She went on to produce many standout show horses for them including Circle S, Bama Cat, and the two above just to name a few. This is Christy Hughes’ second Championship with Cade this year the first being at the Augusta Futurity. This win added another $14,436.90 to he and “Kathy’s” earnings. The duo marked a 221 to claim the title in the tough set of cows. Cade is known for his showmanship and that is what puts him in the winner’s circle time and time again.

Cade Shepard Non Pro Classic and Non Pro Derby Champion

The Derby Non-Pro was much like the Classic Non-Pro in that showmanship prevailed and Bama Dawg aka “JJ” for Julio Junior showed us he is an asset to their program much like his siblings have been. The young stallion Bama Cat is affectionately known as “Julio” an JJ is his full little brother. The gelding was also an Open finalist with Austin Shepard earlier in the week making it a pretty awesome week. Cade and JJ took home a $11,295.96 check for their 219.5-point run. The story behind JJ’s name, Bama Dawg, goes further. As many know the Shepard family loves SEC Football! What some do not know is that Cade’s mom Stacy was a Georgia Bulldog, hints the “Dawg” portion of the name. It is always fun to hear the stories behind some of the creative names people come up with and we thought this one was definitely worth sharing! Congratulations to the entire Shepard family on a very special day for both Cade and their program.
