NYCHA Youth Reap Benefits From Last Year's CHC Charity Roping
Author: Lauren Middleton
One of the main goals for all of us here at Cutting Horse Central is to help give back to those in our cutting family and use our platform to bring the cutters together through special events to help those in need. Whether it's an auction to lend a hand to a fellow cutter, a "Mutton Bustin or Goat Roping" to simply entertain the kids or a Trainers Charity Barrel Race or Team Roping, our "cutting family" has raised some "Big Dollars" for worthy causes.
Last year during the NCHA Summer Spectacular, CHC along with the help and generosity of the NCHA hosted the "CHC Charity Team Roping & Invitational Stray Gathering" that was designed to raise money for the NCHA Foundation to help build a fund earmarked for educational purposes for the Youth. There were several conditions including that this money was to be used only for educational purposes for our Youth and the stipulation that it had to be spent within the next 12 months. We thought we would update you with how the money is being allocated.
The CHC Charity Team Roping & Stray Gathering drew a big crowd of contestants and spectators
It was an extremely successful event with well over 100 teams entered which raised right at $18,400 for the Foundation which was presented in a large check to Rebecca Brian (representing the NCHA Foundation) and Jim Brett Campell (previous NCHA Executive Director).

This event was open to all NCHA members who had won money in the showpen as well as NCHA sponsors and allowed the cutters to have some fun and blow off a little steam to offset the stress of competing at these NCHA Triple Crown Events. Cutters swapped their cutting saddles for roping saddles and showed off their skills. Some were pretty good but there were also some others that just wanted to participate purely for the cause and the fun. This event was a huge success and the Youth will now get to benefit from the money raised.
Hayden Upton was just one of the many Cutting Trainers that swapped saddles to come rope for a good cause!

Jody McGlothlin, who heads up the well-known Grace Christian Academy, attended by many of the young cutters in our industry, has also been very active within the NYCHA. Thanks in part to the money raised with the Charity Roping she has put together a series of "Leadership" classes for the youth that will teach them new skills and help prepare them to be better leaders.
The first part of the Leadership series will be a seminar for the Youth led by two prominant FFA members who will speak to the kids during the upcoming 2017 NCHA Convention in Fort Worth. These speakers will also be coming back and giving another talk during the "Youth week" of the NCHA Summer Spectacular.
The newly elected 2017 NYCHA Officers will also now be given the opportunity to attend the "AQHYA Youth Excellence Three Day Seminar" to be held July 11-13 in Amarillo, TX to better prepare themselves for not only what they are taking on as an officer, but also in their futures. The cost of the seminar and accomodation will be fully funded thanks to the money raised from the Charity Roping. Jody herself attended this seminar as a Youth member and told us how beneficial and fun this seminar was with her own experiences and was excited to be able to offer this to our Youth this year. We all want to have our future leaders to be ready to lead. This is one goal Jody along other NYCHA staff and officers are helping to assist in achieving.
We are grateful and humbled by the constant support in our efforts to better all aspects of our sport. The generosity of our cutting family that continue to step up to make a difference in this special industry is truly humbling and we are lucky to be a part of it. We look forward to hearing about these events planned and cannot wait for the next chance to give back to our great sport of cutting!
