Justin Chalmers and HC Herd Boss Dominate Limited Open Derby Finals

Justin Chalmers and HC Herd Boss (Herding Cats x Chinosa Rey) made the most of their first finals in the Will Rogers with a win marking a huge 225! Everything set up perfectly from beautiful cuts to the two of them being spot on throughout the run. The pair took home a $4,408 check for owners Eddie and Barabra Young who happened to have another horse in this finals as well, HC Tailgate Date (Herding Cats x Dulces Date) ridden by Wes Ashlock.

Justin has been involved in cutting his whole life, his dad Paul Chalmers is a cutting horse trainer as well and has always been very influential in his life. Others he attributes his success to are Sean Flynn and Tommy Dvorak. Most recently he worked under Sean for about a year and a half before moving to work for Eddie and Barbara at the Crooked Hollow Ranch in San Angelo, TX and has been there for two years now. Dan Edwards who was also involved in Sean’s program started “Clark” and Justin took him over as a three year old along with several others who have turned out to be exceptional horses.

Justin and his wife Fallon are some of our favorites to root for as they work so hard to accomplish these goals that are so difficult to attain. They are some of the first ones you see in the mornings and always with smiles on their faces! As we have all heard quoted, “If you love what you do you will never work a day in your life.” We think this definitely applies to this outstanding couple!

Reserve Champion was Brett McGlothlin riding Somethingtobelievein (Hydrive Cat x Playin T Etta) marking a 219 collecting a $3,987 check for he and his wife Jody. This special mare is no stranger to the winner’s circle and one we all love to watch! She is very unique and such a blessing to this family, and is always so good for both Brett and Jody at each show!
