Trey Hunt Memorial Scholarship
Author: Lauren Middleton
We wanted to send a special shoutout to a group of wonderful South Texas cutters that are making a huge impact for our youth! In memory of the late Trey Hunt who was a regular cutter in Area 10 and close friend of so many in the area, they have put together a scholarship fund that has taken off making it something truly special. There are many to thank for being a part of making this a reality but Marcy Blanchard, Heather Gentry, Chelsea Crouch, Amy Lippincott, Shannon Collier, and Christina Huntley are a few that stand out as going above and beyond for the cause!
The Trey Hunt Memorial Scholarship Fund is now at $15,656 -- only $9,344 away from the $25,000 goal! The excitement is not just about the money raised, but also that the effort began December 30th of last year, which is just 59 days ago. It's been a combination of efforts: The Year End Awards Party silent and live auctions, the saddleless/bridleless team cutting, bake sales at both Gonzales & Brenham, Chicken Shit Bingo, and even angel anonymous donors! TODAY, the NCHA approved a donation of $2,000 to the fund! And there will be more to add to the fund total, with the Trey Hunt t-shirts sales and the release of the Trey's Favorite's Cookbook (in production now).
