The Open Champions have been crowned at the 2018 Cattlemens Derby and Classic in Graham, TX! This show marks the close of the very busy winter run and all aged event riders have a little breather until the NCHA Super Stakes begins a couple of weeks from now.
In the Classic Open Beau Galyean and Stevie Rey Von (Metallic Cat x Miss Ella Rey) marked a huge 228 for the win after topping the second round with a stellar 223! "Stevie", now owned by Alvin and Becky Fults, has been involved in a whirlwind of change over the past month but as we all have known, he is an exceptional horse. He has been a standout performer from day one and one we have always enjoyed watching. He added another $15,000 to his already impressive record with this win and the whole team involved in his future is anxiously awaiting what will happen next!

Novice Division Champion in the Classic Open was Cat Ladelle ridden by Randy Chartier. They collected a $2,800 check for owner Layne Bartl.
Lloyd Cox defended his title in the Derby Open having been the 2017 Champion aboard the great mare Copperish (Metallic Cat x Stylish Play Lena). This year it was Blackish (Hottish x SS Blacks Lil Kitty), owned by Julie Jarma, that rose to the occasion for Team Cox marking a 225 to claim their second win for 2018! The Championship also brought in another $15,000 to the young mare's career. Seeing this duo adds a little déjà vu to the mix as she does so many things like her mother and sire who were both shown extensively by Lloyd. "Beyonce" is coming into her own gaining confidence to go along with her strength and elegance, it continues to be a fairy tale story for her and owner Julie. The pair also won the Novice Division Championship collecting another $5,000 check.

This is their second Reserve Championship of the year having been second at the Ike Derby and Classic behind Blackish there as well.
