Miller and Simpkins Win Big in Vegas
Author: Lauren Middleton
It has been an action-packed week in Las Vegas at the 2018 PCCHA Core Balance Derby and Classic! Many Champions have been crowned and we have seen some fantastic horses crack the herd. It is always fun coming to a show in Las Vegas but the PCCHA goes above and beyond to make it about all of the cutters. They have innovative ideas to continue to improve their shows!
The first Champion we will mention is Matt Miller riding Misstresssis (Metallic Cat x Smart Crackin Chic), owned by Holy Cow Performance Horses, who marked a huge 226 to claim the Classic Open Championship and the $12,500 champion’s check! Matt has been topping the go rounds all week long on just about every horse he brought to the Vegas lights. This win was pretty impressive as it was an electric, fast paced run from the start. “Sister” has always been very talented and enjoyed a great deal of success but this is her first major win. The duo has come into their own and the results are exciting to see!

Intermediate Classic Open
The intermediate classes were once again a huge success at this show as they were at the 2017 PCCHA Futurity where they were first implemented. Hayden Upton took advantage of the oppritunities it offered and it played a part in his decision to make the drive to Vegas! He and Big Shoes To Phil (High Brow Cat x Tapt Twice), owned by the Bar RR Ranches, captured the Intermediate Open Classic Championship marking a 222 to take home the $6,967.49 Champion's check!

This year he rode June Bug Jam (Kit Kat Sugar x June Bug Dually), owned by Carol Ward, to top the pack all through the go rounds only to finish on top in the finals as well! They marked a 224 for the win and the $18,000 Champion’s check. Owner Carol Ward had quite the day as her horses were dominating both classes that evening! She gives back so much to our industry every year making it even more fun to see her have success. A true lover of the sport in the spotlight is always good to see!
