Non Pros Up for the Challenge at the Brazos Bash
Author: Lauren Middleton
The Non-Pro competition at the 2018 Brazos Bash was tough with some great horses and riders competing for some hefty purses! The classes were stacked and it could have been anyone’s day!
Futurity Non Pro
In the Futurity Non Pro it was Ryan Rapp and Get Drunk N Trashy (Gunnatrashaya) who were all about consistency marking two 216s to top the cumulative with a 432! The cute little gelding was the product of an outcross experiment that Ryan’s parents tried. Gunnatrashaya is known for being a stand out reining stallion so it is pretty interesting to see one of his baby’s in the cutting pen. His big blue eyes made him a little different than what we usually see but he certainly looked the part while he was working. They collected a $4,300 for the win along with the Gelding Division Championship.

Reserve Champion was Nadine Payne riding Desire A Gun with a 427.5 cumulative score adding another $3,500 to their great fall run thus far!

Derby Non Pro
Kylie Rice started off the Derby Non-Pro Finals the right way marking a 219 aboard Fadie Lou (Woody Be Tuff x Lucindas Catolena). She and “Little Sister” as she is affectionately called due to the fact that she is a full sister to the exceptional performer CR Tuff Lucy, was spot on and Kylie showed smart in the testy cattle and it paid off big time! They collected a $15,000 check to add to their earnings for the year and their first Non Pro aged event win!

Nadine Payne claimed her second Reserve Championship for the show marking a 218.5 riding Peaceful Ez Feeling (Lizzy’s Gotta Player) taking home a $13,000 check.

The Limited Derby Non-Pro Champion was Bridey Greeson riding CR Smart Boots (Boon Too Suen).
Classic Non Pro
Rounding out the Non-Pro classes was the Classic Non-Pro finals where Alexa Stent and her gelding Bowmerang (High Brow Cat x Bowmans Little Jewel) struck again marking a 219 to take home the $15,000 Champion’s check. These two fit together so well and “Russell” has a way of drawing you in during his runs. This horse as mentioned before in past articles is special to Alexa for more reasons than one but he secured his place in her heart once again adding another win to their list of accomplishments. He is another six-year-old we hate to see finishing out their aged event careers but there is no doubt he will be in print many more times in his show career! They also claimed the Gelding Division Championship to top off their day.
