Amateur Competition Tops off 2018 Brazos Bash

The 2018 Brazos Bash concluded as many of these shows do, with a day of Amateur Finals! It was a fun way to round out this event, with the stands full and everyone cheering. We enjoyed watching the excitement of each competitor because making the finals means a great deal to each and every one of them.

Classic $50,000 Amateur

Blake Heid and his new horse CC Capreycious (Halreycious x Sammys Lil Pepper) started out the day marking a 221 to claim the Classic $50,000 Amateur Championship! They had a fast paced but controlled run with Blake looking confident as always in the show pen. This was Blake’s first major event on this mare and they are already showing that they will have a promising future! He plans to take a break to do a little bass fishing but will be back at it at the Waco Texas Futurity later this fall! They took home a $2,800 check for their win!

Reserve Champion was Milton Greeson riding Third Lucinda (Third Cutting x Cadillac Jukebox) marking a 220 collecting a $2,600 check. They were also the Senior Division Champions adding another $1,859.55 to their earnings.

Derby $50,000 Amateur

The Derby $50,000 Amateur Finals was up next and Jacob Wayne Little stole the show marking a 218 aboard Bet Hes Amazing (Bet Hesa Cat x Queen Of Peptos). This was Jacob’s first aged event win and on this homegrown gelding! He will also be headed to the Waco Texas Futurity next and wanted to thank his help along with his trainer Adan Banuelos. They recieved $3,000 for the win!

Reserve Champion was Marvin Marmande also riding a homegrown gelding, Entirely Smokin (Dual R Smokin x Entirely Magic), marking a 215.5 to take home the $2,700 Reserve Champion’s check. They were also the Senior Division Champions claiming an additional $1,940.40 in earnings. Marvin made sure to tell us how much he enjoys showing the babies that he has raised out of his great mares and it adds a little something extra to the success he has in the show pen!

Classic Unlimited Amateur

The Classic Unlimited Amateur was the third class of the day and it was Madison Crum that finished on top marking a 220.5 riding their Ranch’s great mare Cromed Out Cat (High Brow Cat x Peptos Fancy Jewel). This was one of their first shows together as she has been strictly an Open horse throughout her career. “Crome” is six now and leaving the aged event stage but there are still a few shows left to go for the year and it sounds like that will not be the last we see her in the show pen!  They will focus on breeding this amazing mare but she is easy to keep going and loves her job, might s well enjoy her a little bit more.  They already have some beautiful babies on the ground out of her and looking forward to both a Metallic Rebel and Pretty Boy Flash babies coming in the Spring. Beechfork Ranch actually owns the remaining semen of the late stallion Pretty Boy Flash so they are especially looking forward to seeing how that cross will turn out! This win added another $2,800 and another title to her already impressive career.

Reserve Champion was Stacie McDavid riding DMAC Bellini Martini (High Brow Cat x Miss Martini Play) marking a 218.5 as the last horse out in a challenging finals! They received a $2,550 check for the Reserve Championship along with another $2,358.13 for being the Senior Division Champions, Stacie actually held the first three spots in the Senior Division making it a pretty successful day!

The Gelding Division Champion was Pharoah and James (Hickorys Indian Pep x Wise Little Miss) also ridden by Stacie McDavid marking a 215! They collected $1,859.55 for the win!

Derby Unlimited Amateur

The final class of the day was the Derby Unlimited Amateur Finals. Alberto Rodriuez and Mo Metallic (Metallic Cat x Mo Flo) topped the field marking a 219 early in the first set! This was the duo’s 14th finals this year which is impressive to say the least. They fit like a glove and when going into their run yesterday he just knew he needed to be stronger riding his horse and let him do his job! Trainer Tatum Rice has done an excellent job with this horse and coached Alberto throughout the year making them better and better. This win added $3,100 to their earnings for the year! They are headed to the Southern Futurity next then hopefully the NCHA Futurity after they find the perfect horse for the job!

Reserve Champion was Isidro Sigala riding See Ya At Cadillacs (Sigala Rey x I C Hi Stars) marking a 217.5! These two have been on fire as of late and will also be headed to the Southern Futurity as their next show. They took home a $2,800 check to go along with their Reserve Championship.

The Senior Division Champion was Lach Perks riding Metallic Jack (Metallic Cat x Stella Starlight) marking a 216 to collect the $2,037.42 check for the win!

The Gelding Division Champion in the Derby Unlimited Amateur was Little Guy Cat (Cats Merada x Miss Biscalena) ridden by Robert Masterson. They marked a 217 to end up third place overall and collect a $1,697.85 check for the Gelding Division win.

It was another great show at Silverado on the Brazos this year. It is a state-of-the-art facility and the crew that puts it on tries their best to keep everyone happy and provide the best for them! We are looking forward to what the rest of the year has in store, there are three shows coming up shortly followed by a couple more before we get to the big one… the NCHA Futurity! Good luck to all as you go down the road we look forward to covering everyone’s success!
