Non Pros Putting on a Show in Jackson
Author: Lauren Middleton
The Non Pros have made their presence known at the Southern Cutting Futurity! We have seen some exceptional horses and riders cross the timeline to put together some pretty big runs.
In the Derby Non Pro Elizabeth Queen marked a 223 riding Nighttiming (One Time Pepto x Uno Reba) a gelding owned by she and her husband Skip to take home the Championship and the $10,000 check for the win! “Cruz” has been a special horse for the Queen family from the start having such a presence about him and a unique style. He has been referred to, as Elizabeth’s baby by many and it is easy to see why. Out for a portion of the year due to an injury put him a little behind the other four year olds but he quickly caught up and shined in the show pen. This beautiful gelding is sure to be in the spotlight many more times in the future!

In the Classic Non Pro it was Sasha Thompson that prevailed marking a 221 riding her gelding Sho Nuff Hot (Spots Hot x Miss Play Reyco). They took home a $10,000 check along with the Gelding Division Champion’s check for $1,289.68 and as if that was not enough she was also the Limited Classic Non Pro Champion adding another $1,783.60 to her haul for the show! It was definitely a good day for Sasha and her husband Craig who had just been the Reserve Champion in the Futurity Open earlier in the day. Sasha was smiling from ear to ear after her run and that is what we like to see in this awesome sport that we get to participate in. When things all come together in a run it is the best feeling in the world for anyone who has ever experienced riding a cutting horse.

Reserve Champion was Kade Smith riding his special mare Hay U (Third Cutting x A Little Reylena) marking a 220. He and “Ducky” put together a beautiful run of which we all have become accustomed to seeing from this team. They collected a $7,500 check to add to the exceptional career that they have had. This is one of the last aged events for Ducky but we look forward to seeing her babies in the show pen for years to come.

The Futurity Non Pro wrapped up the Non Pro classes and it was Nadine Payne that finished at the top with a 432.5 cumulative score riding Peaceful Ez Feeling (Lizzys Gotta Player x Snorty Girl). She is a special mare to Nadine in that she is a full sibling to she and James’ great mare Dizzy Lizzy Girl! This is the pair’s second win for this year along with being very successful at the other shows they participated in.
