First Championships Awarded at El Rancho Futurity

The El Rancho Futurity is an event cutters look forward to every year. Its unique and beautiful atmosphere, coupled with big money and great competition makes it a can’t-miss show. The first finals of the schedule was 4-Year-Old Open finals, and the competitors did not disappoint.

Darren Simpkins and June Bug Jam (Kit Kat Sugar x June Bug Dually) made a big impression when they marked a 222 to take home the Championship! June Bug Jam, who is owned by Carol Ward, added $9,000 to her record for the success.

Lindy Burch
and Bayou Metallic (Metallic Cat x Bayou Boon Bell), owned by the Barlajam Cutter Partnership LLC, were not far behind when they marked a 221.5 for the Reserve Championship, worth $7,700.

Third-place honors went to Carolls Cutting-owned Nikes Lil Sue (Boon Too Suen x Cat In White Nikes) and RL Chartier, who put together a 217.5. The pair collected $6,500 for their high placing.

The Gelding Championship and fourth-place was awarded to Adan Banuelos and Plantation Farms’ Real Suen (Boon Too Suen x Donas Cool Cat) when they earned a 217. The team took home $808.50 after their run.

Rubys Shada (Metallic Cat x Ruby Duece), owned by Darren Blanton, carried Grant Setnicka to a 215.5 to earn the Novice Championship.

Hashtags (Metallic Cat x Dual Rey Tag) always turns heads when he walks in a cutting pen. That flashy blue roan coat grabs the attention of many, but his athleticism and eye appeal keep people from turning away.

The stallion, after earning countless championships, has impressed his West Coast fans and significantly add to his lifetime earnings which now are closing in on the $450,000 benchmark. They left nothing to chance when he and Tatum Rice marked a huge 226 to claim yet another title!

The pair added $8,000 to their records for the win and have also moved into 4th place overall in the NCHA Open Horse Of The Year Standings. Since this team leads the NCHA Open World Standings and is the only pair out of the front runners to be eligible for points at the end of the year in the NCHA World Finals this race is leading up to have possibly another exciting finish. Grant Setnicka and Ichis My Choice (Cat Ichi x My Little Abra) have always been a force to be reckoned with in the show pen, and their 224 confirmed the magic is still there. Those impressive marks earned Grant and the J Five Horse Ranch-owned mare the Reserve Championship and $6,932.

Lindy Burch and Oxbow Ranch’s Bet Shes Smooth (Smooth As A Cat x Bet Yer Blue Boons) took home third-place and $5,500 after putting together a 221.5.

A score of 219 allowed both Morgan Cromer on Clarke Butte Ranch’s Betchalou (Bet Hesa Cat x Louella Again) and RL Chartier on Carol Ward’s Crafty With Cows (High Brow CD x Miss Haulin Hickory) split Gelding Co-Champion honors, worth $606.38
