Kody Porterfield & Cat Gethr Clinch Limited Open Futurity Championship

There is always excitement around an NCHA Futurity finals, especially when it is the first finals of the event! The 29-horse Limited Open finals kicked off the show, and the performances did not disappoint!

From the middle of the of the second set, Kody Porterfield put together a solid run on Cat Gethr (Metallic Cat x Love A CD) that earned the pair a 223! Kody and Cat Gethr, owned by J C Jackman, took home the Championship for their performance.

The duo took home $12,323 for the title. Kody picked up this same Championship in 2015 on This Isa Third (Third Cutting x Cat Fancy This), and he is thrilled to add another Futurity win to his list of accomplishments as a trainer.

“She has been a nice little horse,” Kody said. “She has always been really smart about a cow. It feels incredible when it all works out after all the work that goes into it. Everyone on my team works really hard.”

Kody was quick to thank his wife Cheyenne and daughter Klaire for their support, and Sadie Watkins, Ethan Eisenbarth and Haley Welch for all of their help in making this Championship possible. Kody knows big wins like this one wouldn’t be attainable without a great team!

Kody and Cat Gethr also advanced to the Open semifinals, and we look forward to seeing how the pair does throughout the rest of the event.

Greg Wright and Reycan In The Cash (Dual Rey x Cancan Kitty), owned by Eric Freitas, took home the Reserve Championship and $11,255 after marking a 219.
